DeskTop Virtual Reality Application, accessible from Net environments Nu.M.E.
was initially created as a Desktop Virtual Reality application, so that
all users could access a part of virtually reconstructed Bologna from
the Internet. A light version of the application is available. It is
reduced and simplified so that it can be downloaded at normal speed
and viewed with a normal PC. A model that is richer in detail at a higher
resolution which is also available locally with Internet technology
at the CINECA
VIS.I.T. (Visual Information Technology) laboratory
and also at the Bologna
Public Workstation in the Bologna Municipal Office of Public Relations
in Palazzo d'Accursio (Piazza Maggiore, Bologna). Access
to Nu.M.E. from and Internet environment allows experts in history to
work together wherever, fosters the enrichment of the collective memory,
reaches an unlimited number of users, and promotes the project. VRML
(Virtual Reality Modeling Language) and Java , which was integrated
using External Authoring Interfaces (EAI), allowed for 3D modeling in
an urban environment and the management of the historical database.
At the same time it guarantees the development of portable, platform-independent,
standardized, interactive, dynamic 3D worlds. |

in which the visitor types in the year, or a scrollbar which is comanded
by the mouse. Whenever the time navigation function is used, the entire
