The Cross at Porta Ravegnana was erected at the end of the IV century, at the time of Saint Ambrose. The presence of the Chapel of the Cross was first recorded in the XIII century.
It remained in the square until 1798, when it was removed by the French government to improve circulation. It is now in the church of San Petronio. Precise drawings were drafted before it was dismantled.
