The first element that strikes a person is the huge size: at the longest extension points it is over 6 metres in width and 4 metres in height.
The scale of drawing of the city centre is then equal to 1 metre:392 metres and, given these figures, one can reasonable claim that the Vatican fresco is the largest picture of the present historical centre of Bologna, that is, the urban part included within the walls dating from the 13th century.
As in all ancient cartography, North is placed at the bottom.
The scene is well-known and has been printed in its entirety several times but in very small formats which have never allowed the details to be studied. From this point of view, it is practically unpublished. A photographic service carried out especially for Nu.M.E. now allows it to be studied in depth.
